About

Anna Lockwood, the force behind Lockwood Design - a question and answer session

Tell me a bit about your background

I have a fine art degree. Furniture seemed a natural extension to the sculpture I had been making at college. I worked as an interior designer for several years before re–training at the London College of Furniture studying Upholstery.

What services do you offer at Lockwood Design?

I work with both private and commercial clients; what I do can be broken down into 3 areas:

Re upholstery service
Ranging from a simple re-cover job to totally stripping an item down to the frame and starting again. I use my interior design background to help my private clients make informed decisions and have fabric sample books from Sanderson, Romo, Kirkby House and others.

Anna Lockwood

I specialise in traditional upholstery using traditional techniques and materials such as hessian, coir fibre, horse hair and calico. I offer a complete restoration service or a simple recover for cushions, chairs, sofas, chaise longues, screens and headboards.

Bespoke service
I source furniture for clients and re design the item with them. I can also design and make bespoke headboards, banquette seating, leather desks, scatter cushions, bolsters, Moroccan seating, screens, beanbags and footstools.

On line range
Have a look at my exclusive designs on line. Everything is a one off, there will never be the same thing twice. Add yourself to my mailing list to keep up to date with my ever-changing product range.

How ecologically aware are you when it comes to a new design?

I am proud that the majority of my work is re vamping old furniture, meaning that I manage to spare a few chairs from landfill. I try wherever possible to use natural materials too.
In more general terms I think it’s time people started to think more seriously about purchasing long life items. Have a look on ebay and find something exciting. Don’t worry if it needs some work, email me the link and I will tell you how much I would charge you to restore it, and how much fabric you would need. Your home should be all about you, which is why every interior needs something special that’s made to measure!
